Our story

The winemakers and owners

Château du Fresne was founded in 1982 through the partnership of two winemaking families from Faye d’Anjou: the Robin Family and the Bretault Family. Today, it is a rapidly evolving estate, now led by the third generation of winemakers: Yannis Bretault, David Maugin, and Olivier Bretault.

Located to the west of the Loire Valley, in the heart of Anjou, the family business and its vineyard span nearly 80 hectares. Château du Fresne cultivates 8 grape varieties, with the three main ones being the emblematic grapes of Anjou: Chenin, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. With 8 AOCs, 2 IGPs, and 18 cuvées, the estate offers a diverse and high-quality range of wines that will satisfy all tastes.

Young and dynamic, these three winemakers are committed to preserving the know-how and traditions that gave birth to Château du Fresne, while regularly modernizing their techniques and equipment to create ever more exceptional wines.

Independent Winemaker

Harvesting, winemaking, bottling, labeling, packaging, sales, delivery, tasting: the winemakers at Château du Fresne, multitasking and versatile, handle all the steps of the wine creation process.

“At Château du Fresne, we do it all: from the vine to your glass.”

According to the Independent Winemaker Charter, to earn this status and the prestigious label, the winemaker must adhere to a set of rules, which stipulate that they: respect their terroir, tend to their vines, harvest their grapes, vinify and age their wine, bottle their production in their own cellar, market their products, perfect their craft while respecting tradition, welcome visitors, offer tasting advice, and take pleasure in presenting the fruit of their work and their cultivation.

Environmental Respect

The estate is certified at Level 3 “High Environmental Value” (HVE), ensuring that the vineyards are cultivated with respect for and preservation of the terroir, while minimizing the environmental impact. This certification guarantees that the practices of the estate maintain the natural ecosystem.

Our two main commitments: preserving biodiversity and minimizing reliance on inputs (pesticides, fertilizers, water resources).

Cover crops, BacPhyto, organic fertilizers… Château du Fresne is dedicated to environmental protection by implementing techniques that respect biodiversity.
